Todd M. Nelson, LCSW

A therapist who meets you with care, honesty, and respect

I am a therapist whose goal is to help people with their mental health, overcome stigma, and increase awareness of their own mental wellbeing and inner strength. I use my clinical experience and expertise to help clients to start their way to self-acceptance, balance, and happiness. I am very dedicated to my clients, and trustworthy. Trust and sincerity are crucial during the client-therapist matching process.

Todd’s background and clinical experience

I have a master's degree in social work from the University of Chicago. My primary modalities of therapy are supportive therapy, psychodynamic therapy, family systems, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive processing therapy (CPT), and emotion focused therapy (EFT).

In addition to my private practice, I have gained experience working as a VA social worker and psychotherapist in various hospital settings, including: acute psychiatry,  palliative care, oncology, and intensive care unit.

I have trained dozens of social work students over the years, as a clinical field instructor. I have also completed the Illinois 40 hour domestic violence training, including the treatment of both survivors and perpetrators of abuse.
